week2 Barcelona

It's 7pm saturday night' and I am sat outside starbucks with a grande iced coffee, iced coffee is not common here.I spent 8 hours doing coursework today! This course is very tough,so far, I have kept up.they say that the coming week is when they start to fail people's work.this doesn't mean you fail the course though-I haven't asked how many times you have to fail-to fail! Father's day tomorrow.I spoke to the kids today, joseph started judo, jack told me he was sitting on my bed,he had an apple for lunch and that his school was closed(saturday).the last father's day I spent with jack was in 2004 when he was 8months old! Last year he was in Hong Kong, and the year before he was in Spain-I was in Hong Kong! What a weird family!

dog in the digs.

The room I am staying in.

The terrace at school.

There is no street food in Barcelona, you can't buy a hotdog or rice on the street.no paella on the corner. There are only-cafes ,bars and restaurants, and no low priced ones at that.it's cheap to get a coffee or a beer,or a croissant in the morning, but nothing else. The supermarkets are really awful, with that salami meat, and cheese(expensive crap cheese).food is a problem for most of the trainees on the course .today was tough day, after handing in the assignment it took me 8 hrs to do.the pace is relentless, and on a diet of salami sandwiches can be tough.

The city is still beautiful, but today it felt like living in Knightsbridge-but worse.I,'m sure their must be a mcd's and kfc in knightsbridge. Going to bed early tonight, after walking around and around for a couple of hours,I gave up the idea of finding food, and will conserve energy.I bought 4 bananas for £1.50.How much could they be!,I thought.how wrong! I need to lose weight anyway.

Weather is great, people are great.

spain-week 1

Uno grande café, uno grande cervaza, uno Marlboro lights.Three phrases I believe to be the most necessary for life in Barcelona.I got to school at 8am this morning, and left at 8pm.I am now sitting outside a roadside café with uno grande cervaza .I left the room at 6.30am this morning and walked for 45mins to school, stopping for coffee and picking up a croissant along the way. That's been it pretty much everday so far. I did get out of the city at the weekend, about 60km south, and I got lost 120km away in Girona ,in fact if I hadn't got off the train I`d of ended up in France. Barcelona is very different from other Spanish cities I`ve been to,much more chic, cool, and bloody expensive . They really take care of their kids here,no shouting and hitting the kids on the street here.

The people have a much greater sense of self.At first this appears to be just style, but it`s not just style,it`s youthfullness.Couples in their late 30`s still dress as if they are their way to Glastonbury.Their 10 year old kids have got long, crazy hair(boys).Gotta go,people watching to do!
