A British tutor fired for teaching a class of adults in Sydney about the F-word has won a case of unfair dismissal and could be compensated.
English teacher Luke Webster was sacked for misconduct after Mercury Colleges discovered a worksheet featuring the expletive in an unedited form in every sentence.
Students were encouraged to discuss whether the word was used as a noun or a verb in each instance.
"We are not in the business of teaching profanity," read a college dismissal letter to Webster, who had to go back to Britain soon after being fired as his visa became invalid.
He told a Fair Work Australia tribunal that the exercise explained how the F-word can be offensive but also be more benign - such as being used as an expression of surprise.
