Girl stabbed while holding baby
World Museum Liverpool

A girl who was fatally stabbed in a Liverpool museum was holding her baby son at the time of the attack.

Laura Bailey, 17, from south Liverpool, was attacked in the World Museum on Sunday, but handed the baby to a passer-by before she collapsed.

Moments later, 21-year-old Kevin Howard, who police said was known to the teenager, jumped to his death from the third floor balcony.

Police said the 12-month-old baby is being looked after by social services.

It is not known if Mr Howard, from Kirkby, was the baby's father. ....from the BBC

A man kills a deer and takes it home to cook for dinner.

> Both he and his wife decide that they won't tell the kids what kind of meat it is, but will give them a clue and let them guess.

> The kids were eager to know what the meat was on their plates, so begged their dad for the clue.

"Well" he said, "It's what mummy calls me sometimes"

> The little girl screams: "Don't eat it. It's a f***ing arsehole!"

one month

Only 1 month to go, before we can escape for a while. This is what gets me through everyday, especially as I stand in Birkenhead bus station dodging the hordes of loonies who are always there, who seem to way out number non-loonies at night.
There is one guy who I swear walks around and around for hours, sometimes stopping and making irelevant chit chat "that Gandalf is a wizard!"-freaks me out,I tell you.
There is always a guy shouting and swearing at his girlfriend on the phone, and there are always groups of lads or out and out drunks just looking for trouble.
It is then that I think-only a month, only a month to escape the f**king darkness.
It is f**king grim here in winter.
Only a month to go!

what they made Jack do at nursery

jack's nursery sent this home on a video and asked us to pay £14! that's £4 a minute.I just hookedupthe vcr-copied it and sent it back to the nursery. Jack looks puzzled more than anything, until he gets upset at the end and the tears come-I must have a word with them about making him do silly things when he doesn't want to-he does look cute though!

Leading head attacks 'size zero' culture

Top girls' school describes fashion industry's use of ultra-thin models as deplorable
Anushka Asthana, education correspondent
Sunday November 19, 2006
The Observer

One of Britain's leading headteachers has attacked the fashion industry for its 'deplorable' obsession with ultra-thin sizes. Clarissa Farr, high mistress of St Paul's Girls' School in London, said it was 'grossly irresponsible' to spread the notion that being very thin was desirable, a fixation that meant body image was the greatest pressure facing teenage girls. She hoped the extremity of the 'size 00' phenomenon in America, equivalent to a size two dress here, would spark a backlash......

The government's health watchdog is set to recommend that severely overweight children at risk of developing life-threatening diseases should be offered radical weight-loss surgery.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice), which is currently under fire for rationing Alzheimer's drugs, will shortly publish its long-awaited plans for the treatment of obesity in adults and children.

Leave Christmas alone, say Muslims

By Jonathan Petre, Religion Correspondent
Last Updated: 1:56am GMT 15/11/2006

Muslim leaders joined their Christian counterparts yesterday to launch a powerful attack on politicians and town halls that play down Christmas.

They warned that attempts to remove religion from the festival were fuelling Right-wing extremism.

A number of town halls have tried to excise references to Christianity from Christmas, in one case by renaming their municipal celebrations "Winterval".

They have often justified their actions by saying Britain is now a multi-faith society and they are anxious to avoid offending minority groups.

But the Muslim leaders said they honoured Christmas and that local authorities were playing into the hands of extremists who were able to blame Muslim communities for undermining Britain's Christian culture.

Fury over Halal Christmas dinner
18/11/06
By Paul Jeeves

PARENTS expressed outrage last night over a school’s plans to serve pupils a Muslim Christmas dinner.

The headteacher announced that she intended to replace the children’s traditional turkey meal with halal chicken.

She explained that eating poultry which had been slaughtered in the Muslim way would create an “integrated Christmas”........

Time for change?

So, the great American democracy rears it's head again today.
Will they hurt Bush? During the last election 2 years ago, many British people gave their opinions freely,as they obviously did not support George W.
A lot of Americans were incensed that Brits had dared to interfere.I can see their point, but you have to admit that the president of the U.S. can have a major impact on global affairs, especially war and the environment.
These elections may also have an effect as Congress has the power to control the actions of the president, to a certain extent.
Ultimately the choice is the American people's and there, as here, they deserve whoever wins. That is the point of democracy.
People here complained bitterly about Thatcher for 17 years, as people now complain about Blair. That puzzles the hell out of me, it is almost as though there was noone who actually voted for them.
I voted for the first time here during the summer, it was the first time that I had been in the country during an election since I turned 18 (many years ago).
In Hong Kong, people don't deserve the government that they have, as the government is not directly elected.
I have marched for democracy every year except this year in Hong Kong-so far, to no avail.
I will march again next year, and I will vote, as soon as the first general elections take place-whenever that may be!

hospital-thanks Don!

archives

Don't forget to check the archives-along the right hand side of the page.It may seem like a photo blog at the moment, but that is just because I've been away for 3 weeks.
I will try and write more, but a picture can say a thousand words-sometimes.
Jack was 3 years old in the last month, and Teosdee was 40! She didn't seem overjoyed at the idea.
Only a few weeks before xmas, and our flight to Hong Kong and the Phillipines.
Money has been tight whilst waiting for the government to get off it's arse and begin paying for Jack's nursery which is £500 per month. The idea being, that nursery education is subsidised allowing both parents to work.
We have now waited 3 months and haven't received a penny towards it.this is playing havoc with our xmas plans.I plan to spend most of the day fighting on the phone tomorrow-oh joy!
The way I see it, is that we are now much worse off than we ever were in Hong Kong, and both of us are working! Nursery fees were difficult in HK as well, but at least it was only me working. Fingers crossed that I get some answers tomorrow.

back in the pool

I arrived back home yesterday.I was glad to be back, living in a hotel for 3 weeks is a bit much.I was sick of full English breakfasts by the time I left. It is definitely nicer in the south, it feels safer, and there seems to be less yobs hanging out on the streets. Public transport is crap though, and I had to walk everywhere, I think I walked about 15 miles last Saturday alone. The hotel was alaways full of an evening with the Round Table, Rotary club, Lions, and even the Muffin club!Nice people-bit weird though. Winter has arrived, frostrs started this week, after a really mild autumn- it was still 20c whilst I was in Hastings.

last lot
